Self-employed and 1099 tax preparation: drivers, couriers, freelancers

We prepare Schedule C returns for people who work for themselves: Uber and Lyft drivers, couriers, truck drivers, contractors and freelancers. We find every deductible expense and plan your quarterly taxes. From $300.

What our self-employed tax service includes

1099 income
We combine all 1099-NEC and 1099-K forms plus income without forms — cash and transfers.
Expenses and deductions
Vehicle, phone, tools, insurance, home office — everything related to your work.
Self-employment tax
We calculate self-employment tax and reduce it with legitimate deductions.
A plan for next year
We calculate quarterly payments so April brings no large balance due or penalty.

Why the self-employed often owe at tax time

On a W-2, your employer withholds tax. On 1099 income nobody does — and in April it all comes due at once.

01

15.3% self-employment tax

On top of income tax, you pay Social Security and Medicare for yourself and as the "employer".

02

Expenses lower the tax

Every documented business expense reduces both income tax and self-employment tax.

03

Your car is the big deduction

For drivers and couriers, the vehicle deduction is often the largest: by mileage or by actual expenses.

04

Quarterly payments

If you expect to owe more than $1,000 for the year, the IRS expects quarterly payments — or charges a penalty.

Self-employed tax FAQ

At what income does a self-employed person have to file?

If net self-employment earnings for the year are $400 or more, you must file — even if your total income is small.

Mileage or actual expenses — which is better for my car?

It depends on the car and your miles. We calculate both and pick the larger deduction; in later years the choice can be limited.

Do I have to pay taxes every quarter?

If you expect to owe more than $1,000 for the year — yes. Deadlines: April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15.

When should I open an LLC or an S-corp?

An LLC protects your assets but doesn't cut tax by itself. An S-corp starts saving tax once profit is steady — we'll run the numbers in a consultation.
